2025 has basically been the year of buying gear. I’ve spent so much that I’m now actively dodging Angling Direct, Total Fishing Tackle, and every online store like they’re exes I owe money to.
Even the clothes shopping has stopped - I own enough joggers and t-shirts to open a small retail chain.
I think I’ve finally learnt from all my mistakes… though my bank account remains sceptical.
To round off my Sonik collection, I’ve got my eye on the Xtractor GT Pro 3 Rod Pod.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with my current NGT cross-pod, but the frame sits slightly wonky and it drives me mad every time I try to take a photo. So, in true cosmetic vanity, I’ve decided it needs to go. The Sonik pod isn’t exactly cheap, mind you - not in Solar or Fox Black Edition territory, but still pricey enough to make my wallet flinch.
The van - it’s glorious in every way. The biggest upgrade it needs now is to have the interior carpeted, so it feels like a proper livable space and can actually hold some warmth when I sleep inside. My main dilemma is that I don’t want to tackle it myself and risk making a mess of it. I’d rather have someone who knows what they’re doing handle it, but I also want to make sure all the future upgrade options are thought through before any panels go in.
My new SK-47 rods are loaded with Korda tapered line, but let’s be honest - I’m not fishing anywhere in the UK that actually needs that kind of casting distance. I don’t want to save the rods just for the odd big trip once a year, so I’m torn between replacing the line on the spools or just getting a few extra spools and setting them up differently. Realistically, knowing me, I’ll probably just buy three more spools and line anyway. you can never have too much gear, right...
I need shelving, rack space, and some proper surfaces.
The garage is getting crowded with more and more gear showing up, so I really need a better way to organise it all. The goal is to be able to grab what I need and pack the van without tearing the whole garage apart just to find the right bivvy.
